Arise, shine, for your light has come,
and the glory of the LORD shines over you.
For look, darkness will cover the earth,
and total darkness the peoples;
but the LORD will shine over you,
and his glory will appear over you.
Nations will come to your light,
and kings to your shining brightness.
Raise your eyes and look around:
they all gather and come to you;
your sons will come from far away,
and your daughters on the hips of nursing mothers.
Then you will see and be radiant,
and your heart will tremble and rejoice,
because the riches of the sea will become yours
and the wealth of the nations will come to you.

“Arise, shine, for your light has come.” Repentance is not only leaving sin behind, but rising into the life God is calling you to live. Where have you remained spiritually passive when God is calling you to renewed obedience?
As God’s light rises, his people are meant to reflect his glory. What darkness in your life needs to be renounced so that your life more clearly displays his beauty?
End this day by writing two short lists: What am I leaving behind? What am I rising to?
Let repentance take both forms: turning from sin and turning toward a renewed life with God.
Pray that repentance would lead to renewal. Ask God to make your life radiant with his presence and obedience.
