Read and consider Luke 22:39-46. What does this communicate about Jesus’ in his humanity?
I wonder if I would think the same as your professor?
(from Tim) – great question Mary! I think the question is right and was meant to be provocative, and the tension is important. We should care about our purity of heart and not being stained by the world (i.e. James 1:27). While at the same time we recognize that Jesus attracted many in society who the “good people” didn’t hang around (i.e., tax collectors, prostitutes, sinners). There is tension in that we should embrace as people on mission with Jesus…
Could the converse then be true–that if we’re only seen with those who make us look good, with those whose presence protects our “godly” reputation, that we are not on mission to seek and save the lost? Asking myself.
great question Mary!
